Animal Cruelty - 100th Post
Animal cruelty - some of you might think of this topic as not fashion related (not that all we write much about it, but...) but animal cruelty is in some cases related to the fashion industry. Our mom showed us this video of animal cruelty in China where they are flaying the animals alive, and they stay alive for almost 10 minutes afterwards, it is devastating to watch, I can't even begin to understand what would bring people to do such things... well, greed maybe, but really?
I admit we have clothing made of fur... and saw nothing wrong with it, but I am not sure if I'll feel comfortable doing the same in the future. One thing is sure though, I won't be buying real fur again!
We don't want to preach or anything, it is not in our characters to look down on anyone for wearing fur, We also, are guilty as charged! People just have not even thought about anything further than the clothing in their hand. Just like we hadn't.
After watching this video I went to bed and our dog was there waiting for us. I looked at him and I felt so bad, who can stay sane after doing something so cruel to animals?
But, this isn't the only "usage" of animals, the beauty industry also uses them as guinea pigs, and who knows? maybe most of our products are tested on animals, we just don't know because we have never even once spared a thought about it. Are we hypocrites for writing this entry, but still using these products? I don't know! In a way I am just rambling, writing down random sentences, trying to make sense... but I felt very strongly about this subject after watching the video...

Sorry for the "lightness" after a serious topic, but this is our 100th post, and we kind of wanted to make it something more "special", and we hope you don't mind it too much that this is the topic, and please feel free to say your opinion about it!
but, we want to thank all of our followers and non-followers for continuing reading our blog and we hope you will continue doing so in the future!

xx
thank you! animal cruelty is not a good thing, too bad us sisters had never really given it much thought... I don't know why we have always loved animals and had many of them...
DeleteI see, then you should not watch it, it is not beautiful, but the message is good!

I am a big believer and supporter of animal rights. I can not stand to see, hear, or even THINK about this kind of thing happening. it makes my whole day in to shit once I think about how disgusting some people are ):
ReplyDeleteand it hurts even worse to know that not much can be done about it because people will always be greedy and evil.
Yes some people treat animals so badly.
DeleteEven just recently there was this news article here in Iceland that a man put his dog on his truck in a very stormy weather and drove a very long way like that and the dog was struggling to stay on, this isn't the worst people can be, but I feel sick to my stomach hearing stuff like this.

Great topic! I support animal rights and - believe it or not - many people criticize me for it x___x but I guess they just don't understand it, so I don't give up ^^
ReplyDeleteI understand your concern about the make up and clothes, animals (not only white mouses, but cats, rabbits, dogs and monkeys) are used in industry for tests. PETA has a huge list of cruelty-free companies and I'm glad to say that some of the best cosmetics brands are in it x3 yay!
You can take a look on it if you are concerned about what brands use animals for tests http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-care/companies/search.aspx?Product=5&Range=0&PageIndex=4
Kisses ;***
I hate how people can be so narrow minded, you are entitled to your own opinion, and no one has the right to criticize you for that!
DeleteI really want to look into that and see what products are not tested on animals!
and it is a relief to hear that some of the best ones are not tested on animals, just comes to show that the other should up their game and do the same :D
Thank you for the link<3

I'm really on the edge with this topic.
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm against animal cruelty, but why does that make wearing animal fur wrong? :o
What if the animal is skinned the proper way. Killed in a respectful manner, then skinned while it was dead.
Why is it bad to wear an animal, but okay to eat it?
Why is it not okay to kill dogs and cats, but its okay to kill chickens, cows, and pigs.
These are just my opinions though. It really is quite sad. And I can totally understand why people may not want to wear it.
But I don't think its a matter of greed, at least not for the Chinese men who ACTUALLY have to skin these animals. Alive. I'm sure they're paid quite poorly. If anyone is to blame for the greed, I'm sure it's the men in the big office buildings telling them they have to meet a certain quota.
But in any case, this isn't exactly new news. :o Peta has already released 3 other videos like this. UGH. I absolutely detest them!
I'm sorry if anyone likes Peta, but they are absolutely disgusting, and a bunch of hypocrites. They kill far more animals then they save. Sure, they're not torturing them, but to simply kill them just because you can't find them a home?
UGH. Disgusting.
It's not really the problem of wearing animal fur, but really HOW they make it, like you say if they do it in a proper way, but we can't really always know how they skin their animals, since that isn't advertised.
DeleteThis topic is very controversial, killing animals to eat them can be done in a bad way and a good way, and also raising them can be done in a bad way and a good way.
I can very much understand what you mean, but I can not say what is right or wrong, whether people should eat animals or not.
Yes, I know this isn't new, but I somehow felt that I wanted to blog about it and share it.
I don't know much about Peta, but it is sorry to hear that D:
This is something I feel very strongly about. Almost all the makeup I use is from brands that do not test on animals. It's very hard finding good products that are cruelty free. To me, it is acceptable to test medicine on animals if there is no other way, but it's not okay for things like makeup that we humans could live without. I'd rather have oily hair and dark undereye circles than have people pour shampoo in rabbits' eyes (this happens!) or apply concealer to animals. The biggest company I stand against is Lancome, who owns Loreal. Believe it or not, I have not bought a single product from them in at least 5 years. MAC, Clinique, and Revlon are my go-to companies now. I like Too Faced, and Urban Decay even has some vegan products now.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about fur. Faux fur looks just as good and is cheaper, so I buy it knowing no creature lost its life so I can be fashionable. If there is no market for real fur, those animals won't be treated so viciously.
People bring up the food argument. Well, there's a difference in providing nutrients for your body and just trying to look good. I am also against cruelty to animals used for food, but that is a different matter which I won't get into.
Culture plays a big part in this debate. I have chosen to abstain from eating pork, something my culture mocks. Pigs are cute to me and intelligent. I wouldn't mind having a teacup one as a pet. I wouldn't eat my chihuahua, so I wouldn't eat my pig either.
Also, I'm working on the tag you guys sent me. I've been really busy with college. ^^'
D: That is horrible, how can they put it in their eyes!
DeleteI understand what you mean with the medicine, since I guess that it is importand for medicine to move forward.
I like faux fur, although I have just three fur items(one real rabbit...) and in my oppinion the faux ones are no worse in any way!
haha, yes the Teacup ones are really cute! although the usual baby pigs also are in my oppinionxD
I guess here in Iceland people eat most of these farm animal on regular basis, there is nothing in our culture that has ever had anyone say that it should not be eater, although nowadays with the vegetarians and all these new lifestyles and health problems people have started skipping out red meat and stuff(but very few...), but I guess I love meat to much:s But as far as I know the only animal that people here in Iceland complain about how is raised in a farm are the chickens, but the reindeers, cows, horses and sheeps roam the country side in the summer. ...haha, guess that kind of went off topicxD
Looking forward to seeing your answers to the questions!^^

Ofcourse I will continue reading! You two are awesome! Especially now, to see how you dedicated your 100th post to something so important. Not many bloggers do that, they usually show a recap of their best posts or something. Which is all good and well, but this has more meaning!
ReplyDeleteFur is really beautiful, but when you see synthetic fur, it looks just as good.
I think when an animal is killed in a respectable manner, without pain and suffering, it would be ok. But to do it in such a way costs time, money and energy. And most companies (if not all) only care about their economic numbers, profits and deals.
The best way to get fur off animals would be to wait untill they are old and die of natural death, the fur would look just as good. But they would never do that.
Eventhough Peta is going way too far with its campaigns, they still have a point. We should treat our animals better. And the more people just stop buying fur, the faster the change can happen. But there will always be horrible, disgusting people who just don't give a shit about animal-cruelty. It's really sad. :'C
Thank you~><
DeleteI just can not understand why they do it that way, since it would be much more easier to kill it quickly! Because no matter what it can not be easy for people watching the animals suffer as they take the fur off!
Yeah I guess they would never do that, probably costs them to much money.....
I agree, but like with every movement, once it goes to the extremce then you lose your face and people dislike you.....like with feminist movements....but they sometimes go way to far...:s
I think that it is both that the people do not realise the cruelty behind their clothes and that in some cases they just HAVE to own fur, weather they like it or it is a trend. Because I know that in the town that I live now, if fur would be the next "thing", then everyone would buy it, weather they like it or not!

They don't kill the animals in the proper way (if there's a proper way to kill) because they say it damages the fur and even that the fur lost it's quality if the animal is skinned after death (wich is a lie, ox skin used in leather stuff are get after the animal is dead).
ReplyDeleteHumans are used to see animals not as living beings but as things that we can use and just throw away. The thing is: humanity don't need it anymore, we don't need real fur for warmth and we can get nutrients for our body from several sources but meat. There are in vitro tests for medicine, make up and all the other products we buy, animal tests do not guarantee that it will act the same way for humans. In other words, animal tests are unnecessary.
I don't judge those who eat meat, I myself grew up eating all sorts of meat foods and it's hard to avoid something that you are used to eat everyday (and I used to like it very much). Now I believe that animals are inteligent, in a diferent way of humans, but they are. They can comunicate, learn and show affection and I hope someday to become vegan, because even eggs and milk are obtained using abusive ways for animals.
Maybe fur (including wool), meat and all animal products could be obtained without so many suffering for the animals but industry only think about money and if the cheaper way is the unkind way, sadly this will be the way they will use.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad about anything, but reading the comments I felt that some people are a bit confused and had doubts about this topic. It's a very complex topic but I truly believe it's important to think about it someday, seek for informations and take a stand eventually :3
